On the weekend of August 27, in Agra, India, after visiting the Taj Mahal, we went by chance to the Sheroes Hang out café of the Chhan Foundation. We discovered that this is a coffee run by 8 women survivors of acid attacks!
This means is used by relatives to avenge a refusal of marriage or jealousy. A bottle of acid costs 20 rupees and disfigures for life!
Before 2014, acid attackers were no more punished than pickpockets. Now they face life in prison. However, there are still more than 200 attacks per year.
The foundation assists survivors with medical, legal, training, employment at the Agra or Lucknow café. Visit their website to learn more and learn about the personal and emotional stories of each of these women: www.chhanv.org
At their request, we offered the women of the Agra café a sound system to broadcast music (price = 8800 rs = 98 euros) , and we inaugurated it by dancing on Indian and French music!
Thank you to our donors for their support!
We always need money and volunteers!
