Canine reintegration project in Leh, India!

We went to India, specifically to Leh, in July 2025, with Amandine!

ree

She wanted to do something for the many street dogs and found an association with an original project!

Street dogs not always in good shape...
Street dogs not always in good shape...

place combining animal welfare, mental health, and education, that's the idea behind this association: "Yasuragi Foudation"

Nidhi, the executive director, a teacher by profession, and her partner own land a little outside of Leh. They have already rescued and saved twenty-five street dogs. The project is to create a unique place where dogs and humans could help each other progress. We are well aware of the very positive effects animal therapy can have on mental health and education. .

Here, we are still at the early stages of what will become this future center, capable of welcoming school groups, as well as a facility devoted to mental health rehabilitation.

The center will also renovate a building into a guesthouse to welcome volunteers from around the world who can lend a hand with the many daily tasks.

Although the association was founded in 2021, the move onto this land is still very recent (2025). As the project is just beginning, they need a lot of equipment and materials. This includes building materials, supplies for the dogs (food, care, cages...), as well as things to make the place livable for the dogs with proper outdoor lighting and protection against Leh's extreme temperatures (as low as -30°C in winter and up to 30°C in summer).

Their goal is not to become a massive shelter accommodating hundreds of dogs, but rather to limit the number of dogs taken in to focus on the therapy dog project.

Among the various rescues, they can count:

  • One dog with a broken femur

  • One dog who fell from a six-meter building and now has neurological issues

  • One with a bite resulting in skull damage

  • One blind dog

  • One with cancer in the leg

  • One puppy thrown into a river

Thanks to your donations, we have been able to provide what they needed to start the project!

Namely, transport cages, rice, dal, kibble, and building materials for the creation of a new shelter for the dogs.

Thank you and keep supporting us! :)

Amandine, Mohit, and Julie
