We met Phong, the director of STREETS International Vietnam for 14 years. STREETS International Vietnam is an organization that provides professional-level training and education to disadvantaged young people, with a focus on English language skills and life skills, for careers in the culinary arts and hotel services. The emphasis on learning English is particularly valuable to us because Vietnam is ranked quite low in language proficiency, making communication with locals and restaurant waiters difficult. Two permanent volunteer teachers offer English lessons. Street International's program meets the increasing demands of the hospitality industry in Vietnam and other countries such as Singapore, France, and Dubai. The school collaborates with various professionals to adapt its program. The young beneficiaries of this organization come from impoverished families and have experienced malnutrition and/or insecurity. Some of them are currently employed in international 5-star hotels and resorts.
Over 350 young people have graduated thanks to the association. They receive medical care, food, and safe accommodation throughout their scholarship. Street International was founded by an American who worked in the hospitality industry. The scholarship lasts for 40 months. On average, the students find employment within 45 days of receiving their certificate.
Currently, 48 young people are enrolled in the school, but the association receives 80 applications. Since its establishment in Vietnam, they have graduated 350 students.
The students, who are between 17 and 22 years old, come from impoverished and/or challenging backgrounds. They may be orphans, from HIV-positive families, or survivors of human trafficking. They are selected based on their motivation and ability to stay committed, as the school invests a significant amount of money in each student's education.
Classes are held every day, while weekends are reserved for sports, recreation, and rest.
Thanks to your donations, La Belle expé has provided a new blender worth 70 euros to the school. We extend our gratitude to them! The association is partially funded by customers of the school restaurant. However, the project has been affected by COVID and is seeking more substantial financial partnerships. We encourage companies to consider supporting this cause through financial contributions.
